Citroën Buildings

Bouwinvest
Amsterdam

The two Citroën buildings on Stadionplein in Amsterdam were designed by architect Jan Wils and together form an architectural triptych with the nearby Olympic Stadium. The southern building, dating from 1928–1931, features characteristics of the Amsterdam School and De Stijl, while the northern functionalist garage building dates from 1958–1962; both are designated national monuments. Chiel de Nooyer photographed the buildings prior to the large-scale transformation in which Rijnboutt converted the northern building into the multifunctional office building The Garage. This photo report captures the industrial character and architectural-historical value of both buildings at a time when they were still in their original state.
